Mission

The concept of having goals has become a spiritual challenge for me in recent years- striking this balance between the pursuit of achievement and faithful submission. The juxtaposition between defining a desire with a timeline and fully releasing my agenda to God is clearly conflicting, unless we are truly living within the construct of God’s plans for us (Proverbs 19:21).

There is a significant value in using our God-given talents for the betterment of others, not only for what we’re able to give but who we become in the process. Character cannot be shaped unless we are going through something; a journey, a pursuit or an endeavor that beckons a new version of us. We then can use our platform to praise God’s glory and be a testimony of salvation and His power in us! But oftentimes our goals will lead us through adversity long before we get to the prize. Luke 14:28 reminds us,

“For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost [whether he has enough to complete it]?

Before we set out to achieve something spectacular, it’s important to remember that it is not the goal itself which is most valuable, but what is forged in the process. Spiritual endurance is a mighty gift. The ability to charge onwards in a God-ordained mission, despite the natural costs involved, is not for the faint of heart. Bringing our goals to God is the crucial first step, not in a position of saying, “Here are my plans Lord…now please bless it!”. But to ask for His direction, because if the Lord's plans become our plans, there is no limitation to the goodness we’ll see produced in us.
