Solitude & Silence
Solitude and silence. Through each of these I find the voice of the Lord. Most of our lives are hectic, loud and fast-paced. The moment our day begins it's a mad dash to complete task after task, flying through every minute just to get to the next. Every decision we make is influenced by people who tell us where we need to be and what we need to do, which floods our minds with such noise and clutter. We’ve become reactionary creatures to our fellow man, following the agendas and timelines of others. But in all that, how can we expect to hear the voice of our Father?
Solitude involves being removed from other people- to be with yourself, untethered to any other influence. It’s in the space that I can enter the throne of God and come to Him just as I am. In silence, without the noise which so easily deafens me, I am able to think and see clearly the steps before me. Sometimes this world can be so loud with the ideas of what you should be doing here and who you should be there, filling us with constant confusion.
Within this whirlwind there is one true north that I seek as my source for direction, and that is the Living God. It is a nearly impossible task to hear His voice in the chaos of our ultra-programmed lives. Slowing down through solitude and silence removes the burden of task and frees me to hear and receive all that the Lord has for me.
“And the effect of righteousness will be peace, and the result of righteousness, quietness and trust forever” Isaiah 32:17
